Kaleidos This exhibition takes the viewer beyond the original photographic image to delve into the intricate details, patterns and relationships of natural and architectural subjects. My interest is in visualizing and creating pattern. I seek out the fluid, organic shapes in nature and the orderly, geometric forms of architecture, and weave them together photographically. Combining these subjects in quilt-like forms presents colourful contrasts, depth, and visual ambiguity in the images.
The creation of a quilt, like architecture, often starts with a square module for the design. The composite images in this exhibition are similarly based on the manipulation of a square original. That square is multiplied, altered and re-assembled, resulting in photographic "textiles" that are a highly interpretative re-imagining of the original image, often emphasizing the similarities and differences between the diverse subjects.
The images are mounted on an aluminum substrate and framed in a white floater frame. They are in a limited edition of 10 for each image in the series. Images in the exhibition can be found in the Nature and Architecture Galleries on my website.
